Culture Rock involves music, general session talks with great speakers, skits, break-out sessions by grade and gender, food and fun!
Who are the main speakers at this year’s Culture Rock event?
Andrew and Christina Gard, as well as Terrance and Allonda Hawkins, will be speaking to the teens. Sharon Hersh will be speaking to the parents. Please see their bios under the “Speakers” tab on the home page.
Please tell me about the breakout sessions?
Sure, the breakout sessions will be by grade and gender. Each breakout session leader will be covering topics from the general session and giving the youth practical applications to what they just heard.
Are parents invited?
Yes and Yes. Not only are they invited, but we want to encourage as many parents to attend as possible. Each year we continue to hear many testimonies from parents who found the event enriching. It is our hope to empower parents to have authentic conversations with their teens as they gain a better understanding of what their youth are encountering in today’s culture. We feel like strong parenting gives kids confidence to “Rock their culture!” There will be breakout sessions again this year for the parents.
Can I bring my 5th or 6th grader if they sit with me?
We believe that the content being discussed is suited best for grades 7th-12th. We are cognizant as a steering committee of the serious responsibility to provide age appropriate material in both the general session and the breakout groups.
Will the youth be allowed to leave early without a parent?
If you are not attending with your youth, and they need to leave the event early, please send a note along with your youth that they can provide a Culture Rock volunteer upon exiting.
What is the attire for this event?
We hope that parents and teens alike will wear comfortable and modest attire. That being said, this is an outreach event, so the “attire police” will not be at the door.
